    Description

Flemish Single Manual Harpsichord in the Style of Dulcken,
    Willem Meijer, Holland, ca.1980
This is a Flemish single manual harpsichord in the style of Joannes Dulcken, built by Willem Meijer of Holland around 1980. It has a compass of 57 notes, AA-f’’’ and is disposed with two 8 foot registers, with a buff stop to the front 8 foot. Handstops controlling each of the 8 foot registers are found in the keywell. The keyboard appears to be of walnut and maple and is visually stunning. The case measures 81 inches long, 36 inches wide, and 11 inches deep, and rests atop a lovely trestle stand with seven legs. The case is painted a deep green, the interior is painted Chinese red, and the soundboard is beautifully decorated with floral patterns. Structurally, the instrument is free of defects, save one small crack in the extreme treble portion of the soundboard, which is typical of any harpsichord. The jacks are plastic and are very similar to the Hubbard jacks. The plectra are Delrin. The harpsichord is strung in historic type music wire and plays beautifully. The tone is full-bodied, warm, and resonant. The harpsichord has a removeable music desk, as well as a matching bench. Included with the harpsichord is a tuning hammer, extra strings, and a magnifying glass. The harpsichord is available to play and inspect in the Poconos Mountains, Pennsylvania.
